My background

I trained at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic, then spent some time practising in Cornwall before joining Health on Hand in Leicester and Mansfield, where I've practised for over half a decade and still see patients today. I'm gradually moving to work full-time here in Loughborough, close to where I live — for now that means limited days while I build up, with more added as I go. Outside the clinic you'll usually find me on a dog walk, out on the golf course (with more enthusiasm than skill), or catching up with friends.

Desk setup

Is your desk setup causing your pain?

A lot of the neck, back and shoulder pain I see traces back to hours spent at a desk that isn't quite set up for you: a screen too low, a chair that doesn't support your back, a mouse just out of reach. Take my free desk check to find out where yours is going wrong, and what to change first.

Your chair

When you sit right back in your chair, where are your feet?

Look down without moving. Do not correct yourself first.

Questions people ask me

What is a chiropractor?

A chiropractor is a regulated healthcare professional who assesses and treats problems affecting the muscles, joints, nerves and spine. Treatment can include hands-on techniques, movement advice, education and exercises.

How much does a chiropractor cost?

My initial consultation is £70 and lasts 60 minutes. Follow-up treatments are £45 each, or £200 for a block of 5.

Are you new to Loughborough?

I'm currently splitting my time between Loughborough and Health on Hand in Leicester and Mansfield, where I've practised for over half a decade. I'm gradually moving to work here full-time, close to where I live, which is also why my hours are limited for now — they'll expand as I do. If Thursday doesn't suit you, get in touch and I'll let you know as soon as new days open up.

Chiropractor or physio?

Both can help with musculoskeletal pain, and there is overlap between the two. My approach combines hands-on treatment with advice and exercises. If I think a physio, GP or another professional would be more appropriate, I'll tell you and help point you in the right direction.

Are chiropractors regulated?

Yes. Chiropractors in the UK must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council. I'm fully registered and trained at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic.

More on safety and regulation →

What happens at my first appointment?

I'll take a full history, examine how you move, and explain what I think is going on in plain English. Many patients get some treatment on the same visit too.

Who will I see at my appointments?

You'll see me, Tom, every time. I've learned it's just as important to understand the person as the pain, so I focus on understanding what may be contributing to your pain rather than simply focusing on the symptoms, and I'm with you for every step of your recovery, not just the first visit.

How many appointments will I need?

It varies from person to person, so I won't promise a number upfront. I'll give you a realistic estimate once I've assessed you, and there's no pressure to keep booking beyond what's actually helping.

More on what affects recovery time →

Will it hurt?

Honestly, parts of it can be uncomfortable. Where muscles have tightened up protectively, working through them can bring tenderness in the muscle and the structures around it. That's temporary, and easing those areas is usually what starts to settle things down. Joint work tends to be easier, and some people feel relief straight away. Afterwards it's normal to feel a bit achy for a day or so, much like after exercise.

What's the clicking noise?

That sound is gas releasing from within the joint, the same thing that happens when you crack your knuckles. It isn't bone, and it isn't a sign of damage. If you'd rather avoid that technique altogether, just say so and I'll use something else. There's usually more than one way to treat a problem.

What should I wear?

Something you can move comfortably in. I may need to see or work on the area I'm treating, but you'll never be asked to undress beyond what's necessary, and you're welcome to bring someone with you.

What if I need to cancel?

Just let me know as early as you can, ideally at least 24 hours before. You can use the link in your confirmation email or message me directly. Cancelling inside 12 hours or missing an appointment is charged at half price, though I always write off the first one. Full detail in my cancellation policy.

Got a question? Just WhatsApp me, or fill out my contact form.
